LEED V3

LEED V3, or LEED 2009, is a recent major overhaul of the LEED rating and certification system. I, being a LEED Accredited Professional, have spent a long time going over and researching the changes to the new system. In this post I will highlight a few of the changes that I like the most and I think are a step in the right direction for LEED.

Regional Credits, in my opinion, is one of the most important changes to the LEED rating system. This places a focus on the location of the building geographically, rather than a blanket set of principles, whether you are in an Maine or Southern California. Although I wish they would have put a larger emphasis on Regional Credits, it is still a step in the right direction.

The changes for Accredited Professionals is also an improvement. They have revamped the whole process, which requires actual experience, ongoing education, more specializations, and different levels of attainment. This will especially help consumers or businesses decide who has the best qualifications for a given building type.

Anyone interested in more information on LEED V3 comment on this post and I will do my best to provide the information.

Inefficient Old Homes

I don't know about you, but I love old homes. To me, I feel a part of history when I am in one. I love looking at the beautiful craftsmanship, the old lumber, and the architectural styles. I also love to see how far we've come in building technology. Probably one of the greatest advances has been in energy efficiency. Most old homes in their original state are not energy efficient at all. However, if you're like me, you don't want to tear down the beautiful piece of history that you fell in love with. I stumbled across a great article, "This Old Wasteful House," which discusses this very topic with some good tips and points. I think you should read it. And if you have any questions on specific things you can do to make your own house more energy efficient, call or email Implement Green and we'll give you a free consultation on the subject.

REGREEN

REGREEN is a set of remodeling guidelines that Implement Green Strongly believes in. We believe that in today's world, remodeling green is more important than ever. These guidelines are very comprehensive and cover a wide variety of project types and scopes.

Comment on this post if you have any more questions on REGREENing your home, or contact Implement Green.

Green Your Home for Under $500

I recently came across an article on The Green Home Guide website which I found quite interesting. “15 Green Projects for Under $500” gives great ideas that anyone can implement in their home. Something as simple as building a clothesline or installing aerators on faucets can make a difference while conserving energy. What's so great about this article is that it leads to another topic I'm excited about, the REGREEN program. This program is a set of resources and tools for green home remodeling projects. The guidelines help make home renovation projects green, from installing a new dishwasher to remodeling a master bathroom or even refurbishing an entire home interior. Following REGREEN guidelines doesn't even have to be much more expensive than a "typical" renovation.

Questions????

If anyone has any questions about green building, construction, remodeling, etc., please comment on one of my posts and ask me and I'll respond. If I don't know the answer, I'll use all of my resources to find out.

I would like this blog to be a forum for everyone to learn about sustainable building and living practices. I've been in construction my whole life and I'm still learning. So don't be afraid to ask me anything, because I realize just how confusing construction can be. And living and operating in a sustainable fashion can be confusing as well. And who has the time to research everything? That is what I am here for.
